Roofing quantity planning starts with a checked surface boundary and slope. Keep horizontal projection, sloped area, any project allowance and product-package coverage on separate lines so another person can reproduce the quantity.

Which roofing quantity tool is available?

The Roof Area Calculator converts one rectangular horizontal roof projection and uniform rise/run pitch into sloped surface area. A second mode accepts a separately checked sloped-area total without applying pitch again.

The results show calculated area, an optional entered allowance, roofing squares and package quantities when the current product coverage is entered. The tool does not use a preset pitch, allowance, bundle count or roof-type factor.

Which records should you collect?

  • Roof section ID and a plan or field sketch.
  • Horizontal boundary dimensions including assigned overhang projections.
  • Rise and run for each uniform-slope section, or a checked sloped-area report.
  • Roof openings, dormers, valleys, hips, ridges and transitions recorded separately.
  • Manufacturer, product, code, color and current package coverage.
  • Approved allowance, supplier quote, package increment and confirmation date.

Split the takeoff when pitch, material, package coverage or project treatment changes. Add compatible unrounded planning areas before whole-package rounding.

Which decisions remain outside the calculator?

The calculator does not inspect a roof, choose a covering, set a code-compliant pitch, design drainage, calculate structural loads, decide how openings affect the order or prepare a fall-protection plan.

Use current drawings, product instructions, project specifications, local requirements and qualified roofing decisions. Measure from plans, the ground or a suitable professional report when roof access would be unsafe.

Keep each measurement state visible.

A horizontal plan area needs a pitch multiplier. A checked sloped-area total has already passed that step and must not receive the multiplier again.
