Open Flooring Calculator: Area, Planks and BoxesFlooring quantity planning starts with the finish boundary and the exact product being ordered. Keep measured area, exclusions, allowance and package rounding visible so the result can be checked.
The Flooring Calculator measures one rectangular room or accepts a separately checked known area. It subtracts up to 2 rectangular exclusions, applies an entered allowance and calculates whole boxes from current product coverage.
A second route uses verified rectangular piece dimensions. It returns a whole-piece planning count and calculates boxes when the current pieces-per-box value is available.
Run separate calculations when products, colors, sizes, package coverage, layouts or allowances change. Combine compatible unrounded planning areas before rounding to boxes.
The calculator does not choose the floor finish, decide whether flooring continues below a fixed object, place rows, model offcut reuse, design stairs, select underlayment or adhesive, or approve the substrate and installation method.
Use current drawings, manufacturer instructions, project specifications, seller terms and qualified project decisions. Sheet goods, rolls, random-length bundles and mixed-width patterns need their own takeoff method.
Nominal piece dimensions and current box coverage may not match exactly. Use the current box record for a purchase check and keep piece arithmetic as a separate verification.
The calculation methodology explains unit and rounding checks. Report a formula or source issue through the corrections route.
